Nickel is primarily used as an alloying material.

Nickel is a primary constituent of pentlandite, laterite, millerite, nickeline,  and garnierite.

Nickel is commonly alloyed with:

• Copper (Cupronickel, Constantan)
• Iron (Ferronickel, Invar, Fernico)
• Chromium (Nichrome)
• Titanium (Nitinol)
