Stoneware is a semi-vitrified or vitrified Ceramic, typically composed of stoneware clay or non-refractory fire clay. Stoneware is typically used as a material for pottery.
It is a relatively hard ceramic, resistant to being scratched by softer materials and water resistant even without glaze (though glazing improves the seal significantly)
